PCOO assures protection of freedom and rights of Filipino media workers

On World Press Freedom Day, the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) has ensured that the government will protect the freedom and rights of media workers in the Philippines.

According to PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar, the press holds a significant role in the foundation and development of the community.

“With the current COVID-19 pandemic, press freedom has allowed for the continued delivery of news and reports to all Filipino households. It has also helped voice out the public’s pulse and serve as an avenue for the government to increase public awareness of its policies and report its activities with complete transparency.”

PCOO Sec. Andanar also encouraged the government and media to work together to fight “biased information, misinformation, disinformation and fake news.” – Report from Mela Lesmoras
