COTABATO CITY — A public utility vehicle (PUV) driver here has tested positive for illegal drug use, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PDEA-ARMM) said Saturday.
PDEA-ARMM Director Juvenal Azurin said the PUV driver who tested positive for “shabu” (crystal meth) was one out of 134 PUV drivers the agency tested during its Oct. 29-31 operations in terminals here.
Azurin declined to identify the driver pending a confirmatory test, but noted that the driver’s immediate employer has been informed of the result. PDEA, he said, expects appropriate action from the transport management.
PDEA-ARMM, the police and the local government of Cotabato conducted the three-day drug test– dubbed “Undaspot”– on drivers and other workers in the transport sector to ensure the safety of passengers.
“We are glad only one from 134 drivers we tested was found positive of using shabu,” Azurin said.
He said more surprise inspections are scheduled anywhere and anytime in the region to ensure public safety. (Edwin Fernandez/PNA)
