PDEA gets P202.86-M equipment for anti-drug ops

MANILA – To boost its operation capability in compliance with the Duterte administration’s anti-illegal drugs drive this year, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) purchased PHP202.861,835.00 worth of high-powered firearms as well as protective and IT equipment that will be used by the operating units in its regional offices nationwide.

“These pieces of equipment are expected to boost the Agency’s capability in facing head on the drug problem which continue to destroy precious lives and is the root cause of numerous criminality in the country. As the lead agency in the national anti-drug campaign, our operating units must be well equipped and protected in addressing the drug menace,” PDEA Director General Aaron N. Aquino said during the presentation of these equipment to the media on Wednesday.

“One of the strategies that served as the benchmark of PDEA in accomplishing its mission is the enhancement of the Agency’s operational capability through output- based logistical support for operation. In doing so, appropriate logistical provision is needed that includes mobility, firepower, protective equipment, and office equipment,” he said.

PDEA procured 689 units of tactical modular type vest with a total value of PHP55,051,100.00; and 43 units of mobile armor rifle protective/ ballistic shield, with a total value PHP32,526,000.

The high-powered firearms consist of 560 units of Galil rifle which has a total value of PHP105,840,000.00.

The protective equipment includes tactical modular type vest, mobile armor rifle protective/ballistic shield (level IV) and high powered firearms.

The IT equipment includes 135 desktop computers with a total value of PHP9,444,735.00.

Last January, PDEA has spent a total of PHP90,405,940.00 in the acquisition and funding of additional equipment and motor vehicles to better equip itself in waging an all-out war against illegal drugs. (PNA)
