The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA) on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to enhance the country’s efforts against illegal drug activities and strengthen community development, aligning with the national government’s whole-of-nation strategy.
Under the agreement, PNVSCA will provide training and technical support to bolster PDEA’s volunteerism program, ensuring compliance with the Volunteer Act of 2007 (Republic Act 9418). PDEA, meanwhile, will aid PNVSCA by facilitating volunteer engagement and sharing relevant data for its programs.
This collaboration will also help to facilitate improved coordination among government agencies, non-government organizations, civil society organizations, and local government units in addressing drug-related challenges.
During the signing in Quezon City, PDEA Director General, Usec. Isagani Nerez underscored the transformative role of volunteerism in bolstering the government’s anti-drug initiatives.
“Our partnership is a testament to what we can achieve when agencies unite with one purpose: to serve better, reach farther, and empower communities. Through PNVSCA’s support, we are strengthening our efforts by leveraging volunteerism—a vital force in our advocacy against illegal drugs,” Nerez said.
“Let this memorandum of understanding be more than just a document—it is our shared promise to work hand-in-hand for a safer, stronger, and drug-free Bagong Pilipinas”, he further added.
Aside from Nerez, the signing ceremony were graced by PNVSCA Executive Director Donald James Gawe, PDEA Assistant Secretary Renato Gumban (Deputy Director General for Operations), PDEA Assistant Secretary Israel Ephraim Dickson (Deputy Director General for Administration), and Director III Emiterio Bitong (Chief-of-Staff at PDEA).
