People Power Monument turned over to NHCP

MANILA — The symbolic People Power Monument was officially turned over from the Spirit of EDSA Foundation (SOEF) to the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) during the 32nd EDSA People Power Revolution anniversary on Sunday, February 25.

By virtue of Executive Order No. 47 s. 2017, the NHCP assumed the management of the monument, ensuring its continued maintenance and upkeep.

Under the EO signed last November 2017, President Rodrigo R. Duterte also integrated the functions of the EDSA People Power Commission (EPPC) with the NHCP.

While maintenance is delegated to NHCP, the planning, organizing and implementation of activities to commemorate annual 1986 EDSA Revolution remain with the EPPC.

Last February 12, the NHCP has tapped German company Kärcher to conduct a restorative cleaning project at the EDSA People Power Monument.

Cleaning of the said monument started on Feb. 12 and ended on Feb. 15 as part of Kärcher’s initiative to restore national historical landmarks all around the world.

The People Power Monument, located at the corner of EDSA and White Plains Avenue in Quezon City, is a sculpture designed by Eduardo Castrillo to commemorate the 1986 People Power Revolution which toppled the Marcos regime

It became open to the public in 1993 and was since maintained by the SOEF with no cost to the government until the signing of an EO in 2017. (PNA)
