Petitions vs. ATA are welcome – Palace

The Palace on Thursday has welcomed all the petitions filed before the Supreme Court (SC) against the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020.

The reaction came as a response to the recent move of former SC Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio and former Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales who also filed a petition before the High Court.

“We welcome all these petitions. After all, it is the Supreme Court that will uphold the supremacy of the Constitution,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said.

“So, maraming salamat din po sa kanila dahil mabibigyan ng linaw kung talagang labag sa Saligang Batas po itong bagong batas laban sa terorismo (We also thank them [petitioners] because it will clarify if the new law against terrorism is really not in accordance with the Constitution),” he added.

Roque previously said the executive branch is not meddling with the functions of the judiciary. The Supreme Court has the sole authority to decide on the petitions. Report from Mela Lesmoras
