PH DENOUNCES LONDON TERRORIST ATTACK; NO FILIPINOS AMONG INJURED

The Philippines today expressed solidarity with the United Kingdom as it condemned the terrorist attack near the Parsons Green station in Southwest London that left several people injured.

“We denounce this act of terror perpetrated against the British people,” Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter S. Cayetano said shortly after arriving in New York where he will be attending the United Nations General Assembly.

“We are one with our British friends at this time and express our hope that the perpetrators will soon be brought to justice,” the Secretary added.

The Philippine Embassy in London said there were no Filipinos among the 22 people injured in the explosion which authorities confirmed was caused by an improvised explosive device. The United Kingdom has suffered four terrorist incidents this year.

“We pray for the speedy recovery of those who were injured in this explosion,” the Secretary said as he urged members of the Filipino Community in London to remain vigilant.

Ambassador to London Antonio Lagdameo, 22 people suffered injuries, none of which are life-threatening.  “There are no reports of Filipinos injured by the blast but we are continuously monitoring the situation,” he said.

The explosion occurred around 8:20 AM London Time at the rear car of a train pulling into the Parsons Green station of the London Underground’s District Line.  The District Line is one of the busiest subway lines in the London Underground system, servicing the Wimbledon and Earl’s Court areas.

There are approximately 182,700 Filipinos living in the United Kingdom.  Of this number, 70 per cent reside in the Greater London area. END | dfa-pr
