The Philippine Embassy in Syria offered its condolences to the families of the victims of the strong 7.8-quake that hit Turkey early Monday morning, Feb. 6.
In a statement, the Embassy said initial reports from Syrian news agencies and authorities did not identify any Filipino as among the several hundred casualties and thousands hurt as a result of the quake.
“[The] Philippine Embassy principally acknowledges the overall immensity of this tragic incident and deeply commiserates with the Syrian people, expressing, as it is, its unconditional solidarity in these most trying times,” the Embassy said.
It also assured that it will continue monitoring the situation in Syria and will closely coordinate with the Philippine Consulate General in Aleppo, Syria, and the Syrian authorities.

According to multiple reports, nearly 1,500 people have died from the tremor.
The quake was also felt in Cyprus and Lebanon.
