PH, Oman agree to lift travel ban

The Philippines has lifted the deployment ban of  overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to Oman, Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) Administrator Bernard Olalia said Tuesday (July 20).

The ban was lifted after a meeting between Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III and Oman Ambassador Munther Mahfoodh Salem Al-Mantheri. Olalia said the Omani government clarified that it has no intention to bar the entry of OFWs and Filipino travelers into its country.

In relation to this, Bello said on Wednesday (July 21) that there will be a chartered flight from Oman on July 26 that will repatriate 350 OFWs, and another two chartered flights are scheduled on August 5 and 10.

The Philippines imposed a travel ban on Oman from May 15 to 31 to prevent the entry of the COVID-19 Delta variant.
