SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique – The Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO) will open Antique’s Binirayan Festival with its musical renditions at the Evelio B. Javier Freedom Grandstand in this capital town on Dec. 1.

Antique Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao, in an interview Monday, said this will be a great and rare occasion for Antiqueños to listen to the nation’s leading symphony orchestra for free.

“The PPO will render Christmas compositions that every Antiqueño can look forward to,” Cadiao said.

She added that usually, the ticket for the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra ranges from PHP1,000 to PHP2,500.

The PPO will also perform at the University of Antique Tibiao Campus prior to the Binirayan Grand Opening on Nov. 30 for those living in the northern part of the province.

The two-day successive performances of the PPO will be their third in the province following their concert at the San Juan de Nepomuceno Church in Anini-y town last March this year.

Their musical renditions were conducted by associate conductor Herminigildo Ranera.

The PPO also usually plays only at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) in Manila. However, it will come to Antique in December for Binirayan opening as facilitated by Senator Loren Legarda.

Meanwhile, various activities have been lined up for the Binirayan fest to include the Dec 31 New Year’s countdown.

Among the important activities to be watched is the reenactment of the arrival of the 10 Malayan Datus from Borneo, who first settled in Malandog and established the first historic barangay in the country, on Dec. 24 .

On Dec 27, there will be a Malay Ati competition; awarding of Outstanding Antiqueños, Dec. 28; and the Lin-ay or Beauty Pageant grand coronation night on Dec.29.
