Philippine Medical Association sees need for public confidence in vaccines

The Philippine Medical Association reiterated the need to increase the public’s confidence in vaccinations of any kind.

In a press briefing, PMA President Dr. Benito Atienza disclosed that to increase the public’s trust, it is better for the public to see the frontliners being vaccinated against the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

“Tayo po ay isa sa pinakamababa ang acceptance sa bakuna after ng Dengvaxia issue. Ako po ay 27 years na nagbabakuna at so far naman po ay wala naman po akong nakitang adverse effects (We are one of those with a low acceptance for vaccine after the Dengvaxia issue. I have been vaccinating for 27 years and so far, I have not seen any adverse effects),” he shared.

Aside from the COVID-19 shot, Atienza emphasized the importance of having various vaccines especially against measles for children. The percentage of children who are inoculated against measles and polio have dropped due to the parents’ fear of the Dengvaxia vaccine issue.

Moreover, he reminded the public to be alert and assured that they are continuously giving vaccines amidst the global health pandemic. Report from Kenneth Paciente
