NOVELETA, Cavite — Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III and president of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP) called on newly-sworn in barangay (village) chiefs and kagawad (councilors) in this town to fulfill their campaign promises and serve their constituents well 24/7 as the frontliners in the government service.

Pimentel was guest of honor, speaker and inducting official before the more than a hundred new village executives shortly before they officially assumed their respective posts at noon on Saturday (June 30) during the mass oath-taking rite at the Noveleta Public Market rooftop function hall.

“To all the barangay heads, the closest officials, here are my tips to you: kindly obey your campaign promise during the election campaign, obey the law and always use your ‘kokote’, (a slang for head) kapag may sinabi tayo, dapat gawin natin (if we promised something, we should fulfill it),” Pimentel said.

The senator underscored to the 16 village chiefs and 112 village councilors that the work of the barangay as the smallest local government unit functions as the closest government officials who are in touch with their constituents in the communities they serve.

“Work 24/7 or more to serve your constituents, may mga batas po na kailangan nating sundin, andyan po ang munisipyo para magtanung ng nararapat kung meron tayong di naintindihan para di tyo magkaproblema (we have laws that we ought to obey, there is the municipal government we could ask as the proper channel whenever we are confused so we would not have any problem),” he added.

Meanwhile, Noveleta Mayor Dino Chua also assured the new village officials and constituents that “my office is always open, even my house to everyone to assist every citizen and every barangay to solve and take the necessary action when called for.”

Chua also led municipal government officials in honoring 11 three-termer village chiefs with plaques of appreciation.

Joining the occasion were the seven town councilors and Cavite 1st District Rep. Boy Blue Abaya. (Dennis Abrina/PNA)
