The Philippine Military Academy Alumni Association Incorporated (PMAAAI) has expressed  support to the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) internal cleansing to eliminate illegal drug activities within the PNP.

This followed the recent courtesy resignations of high-ranking PNP officials in response to the call of Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benhur Abalos to clear their names of involvement in illegal activities.

“We respect the decision of the Chief of the PNP and other high ranking Police Officers in submitting their respective Courtesy Resignation to the SILG,” the PMAAAI said.

“The PMAAAI recognizes the need of this draconian measure and conveys its confidence to the PNP leadership in the processes it will adopt to weed out only the undesirable police scalawags,” it added.

The organization also noted the gravity of the anti-illegal drugs campaign, as it vowed to offer support in the campaign.

“Every street corner has a drug problem. It is high time to adopt [the] One Nation, One Whole Nation approach to take down illegal drugs. The PMAAAI is ready to share in the burden of defeating illegal drugs”, it stated.

PNP Chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. considered the support of PMAAAI as a “proof that the internal cleansing being undertaken is effective” in line with its move to hold accountable those who have tarnished PNP’s reputation.

“We are devoted to restoring the public’s trust in the PNP and will continue to take all necessary actions to ensure that the organization is free from members who deliberately indulge themselves in the illegal drug trade”, Azurin said. – Katrina Gracia Consebido-ag
