PNA reporter wins in essay writing contest in Beijing

Philippine News Agency

MANILA – Philippine News Agency (PNA) business reporter Kris Crismundo bagged the second place in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) essay writing contest of China Global Television Network (CGTN).

The China’s state-owned media network announced Sunday the winners for the “CGTN Belt and Road: Share Your Story” contest, which saw the participation of journalists from all over the world. The competition received more than 100 entries from 42 countries from Asia, Europe, Africa, and Latin America.

Eighteen essays from 16 countries were selected as winners — three for the first place, six for the second place, and nine for the third place.

Another entry from the Philippines written by Maria Clara Bernadette dela Cruz won third place.

Crismundo’s piece “Starting Points” talked about her visit and the differences she saw between two cities in China — Xi’an and Beijing.

In her essay, she mentioned that despite the differences, the two cities have become the centers of the East Asian country.

Xi’an was China’s capital during the Tang dynasty and was the starting point of the ancient trade route called Silk Road. On the other hand, the current capital Beijing is leading in reviving the ancient trade network through the BRI.

She also discussed the increasing trade between the Philippines and China under the BRI cooperation.

CGTN will be publishing the winners’ essays starting Monday.

Crismundo has been with the PNA for six years. She is currently based in Beijing for the China-Asia Pacific Press Center (CAPPC) 2019 Program.
