PNP confirms slain NPA members are responsible for IED explosion

By Pearl Gumapos

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief PGen. Eleazar confirmed on Wednesday (June 9) that the New People’s Army (NPA) members are responsible for the IED explosion in Masbate City.

The explosion killed two people and injured five civilians. One of the persons killed was Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws men’s football team member 21-year-old Kieth Absalon and his 40-year-old cousin Nolven Absalon.

Eleazar said a hot pursuit operation is ongoing to track the other members of the NPA.

“Ang ating pong kapulisan ay in close coordination with the Armed Forces of the Philippines at patuloy ang ating pagsagawa ng hot pursuit operation habang tayo ay patuloy na nag iimbestiga,” he said.

The Chief further said that the incident should serve as a wake up call to the NPA and the community.

Eleazar also said that the government is working hard to resolve the issue of rebels and terrorist attacks.

-rir
