PNP: Crime rate down by 6.19%

Crime rate in the country declined by 6.1% as of August 2023 as compared to the figures during the same period last year, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP).

In a news release on Sunday, the PNP said index crime from January to Aug. 23 decreased by 8.78%, while non-index crime fell by 5.55%.

An 8.74% decrease in focus crimes was also recorded, covering theft (5.03%), rape (14.66%), physical injury (15.87%), robbery (6.36%), murder (2.07%), vehicle (31.98%) and motorcycle carnapping (3.84%), and homicide (0.73%).

The PNP said the most prevalent crimes were theft, rape, and physical injury.

A 0.08% improvement in Crime Solution Efficiency was also noted. 

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude, especially to the concerted endeavors of our officers, the support of our partners, and the trust of our fellow citizens which contributed to this positive outcome,” PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr. said. 

“Let us sustain this momentum and continue working hand in hand to build a nation free from the threat of crime,” he added. AG – gb
