DAVAO CITY — The Police Regional Office (PRO) 11 has joined the nation in commemorating the heroism of the 44 Special Action Force (SAF) troops who perished during an encounter to get wanted Malaysian terrorist and bomber Zulkifli Bin Hir alias “Marwan in Mamasapano, Maguindanao on January 25, 2016.
The members of the PRO-11 offered a wreath during the observance of the National Day of Remembrance at the Bantayog ng mga Bayani inside the Camp Quintin Merecido in Catitipan, this city Thursday morning.
“The SAF 44 died a meaningful death on the side of justice and righteousness,” said Chief Supt. Manuel Gaerlan, the director of PRO XI.
Gaerlan said the courage and devotion of SAF 44 would forever be remembered and would serve as an inspiration for all police personnel to be more professional and passionate in ensuring the PNP’s mandate “To Serve and Protect”
Led by deputy regional director for operations, Sr.Supt Jose Bayani Gucela, the men and women of PRO XI attended the ceremony with the family of one of the SAF 44, SPO1 Lover S. Inocencio, who was buried in Panabo, Davao del Norte.
Chief Insp. Andrea Dela Cerna, the spokesperson for PRO 1I, said the commemoration was done simultaneously with the National Headquarters and other Regional Offices in the country.
“PRO 11 joins the nation in continually honoring departed SAF commandos. They were among the best of the PNP,” Dela Cerna said.
“Most of them are young decorated warriors, but most of all, they were heroes who willingly put themselves in danger to address threats to our security and gave their lives in the name of peace,” she added. (Rhoda Grace Saron/PNA)
