PNP gets P2.8B worth of new equipment

Cars, ammunition, trucks, and helicopters have been handed over to the Philippine National Police (PNP) Monday as part of its Capability Enhancement Program.

The new equipment worth Php 2.8 billion have been procured by the agency to strengthen its campaign against terrorism, illegal drugs, and crime.

“Along with this, come with the need of equipment for the accomplishments of PNP’s vision and function to be comparable with the world’s best law enforcement units,” PNP Chief Archie Gamboa said.

He added the equipment have undergone proper bidding process which made it more competitive for suppliers who joined as bidders.

“What is good about them is they do not complain and compete again, because they see in the PNP, since we started in 2016 Transparency. We open up the books, we open up everything. Wala kaming tinatago (We are not hiding anything),” he shared.

Meanwhile, 2,800 units of body cameras for the police force are set to arrive in May.

“Hopefully, they can pass the committee on inspection acceptance when the delivery comes. It’s not only the body cam that’s going to be tested. (This) includ(es) the system,” he said.

The delivery of body cameras has been delayed when three officials reportedly extorted money from suppliers.
