MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday received donations including PHP1 million in cash for the Recovery and Wellness Program and livelihood tools donations for “rehabilitated” drug users.
The donation which also included tools for welding, electronics and electrical repair is to be distributed to community-based reformation centers that the PNP has initiated and supported in various provinces, cities and municipalities as part of the comprehensive social reintegration program of the ‘Oplan Tokhang’ for drug surrenderers.
Out of the PHP1 million cash donation, PHP500,000 was donated by the Rotary Club of Camp Crame led by its President, Director Ramon Puruganan, Director for Comptrollership under their Katok sa Puso Advocacy Program which aims to support the requisites of the Project Tokhang’s social reintegration program of ‘Oplan Tokhang’.
Another PHP500,000 was handed over to the PNP from the proceeds of the first Chief PNP fun run dubbed as ‘Takbo Kontra Droga’.
Included in the livelihood starter tools that were turned over to the PNP were portable welding machines for those who completed the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority training for welders, and various tools for electronics repair and electrical services, small engine mechanics and short courses on physical therapy and massage.
“Of the 1.3 million drug personalities who surrendered when Tokhang started, the Health Department said 90 percent of them can be treated through community-based reformation centers. The Wellness and Recovery Program is the PNP’s answer to the challenge of lack of facilities to cater to the 90 percent surrenderers” the PNP said in a statement.
