Police, army, tanods to secure class opening in Capiz

ILOILO CITY — The Philippine National Police (PNP) will be closely working with the Philippine Army and barangay tanods (village watchmen) to ensure peace and order during the opening of classes on Monday.

In an interview Friday, Capiz Police Director Senior Supt. Samuel Nacion said their “Oplan Balik Eskwela” is already in place.

Police assistance desks (PADs) will be established in selected schools or those with large student populations. At least two personnel will be tasked to man each desk.

“When students, pupils and parents encounter problems in terms of peace and order, they can immediately approach our PADs,” Nacion said.

Meanwhile, schools with smaller student populations and where traffic is not so heavy will be clustered.

Police personnel will be assigned to patrol each cluster and they will be assisted by barangay tanods, Nacion said.

In remote barangays, especially where there are threats from communist-terrorist groups, the PNP tapped the support of the Philippine Army to conduct patrols.

Being monitored are the towns of Tapaz, and Dumarao, part of Cuartero, and Mayon.

Nacion said preparations in these areas are being discussed by the Joint Peace and Security Coordinating Center.

As a whole, Nacion said they have not monitored any threat that could hamper the opening of classes on June 4.

However, he said they have to be proactive in their deployment so they could respond to any immediate peace and order concern.

Nacion said they will be maximizing the deployment of their more than 900 personnel in Capiz. Except for those who will be manning their offices, all police personnel will be deployed to the field. (Perla Lena/PNA)
