Police nabs murder suspect after 9 years in hiding

MANILA — A man who stabbed his cousin dead before going off the grid for nine years and hid from authorities has finally been arrested in Pasig City Wednesday.

In a report, San Juan police chief Senior Supt. Dindo Reyes said Joselito Mayo, alias Donie, 41, was arrested in front of Mayfield Condominium in Barangay Rosario, Pasig City after a week-long surveillance by his men, following information that the suspect was frequently seen in the area.

Teams of the intelligence unit of the San Juan police, headed by Senior Insp. Jerry Napagal, armed with a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Leoncio Janolo Jr. of the Pasig City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 262 for homicide, swooped down on Mayfield Condominium at about 9 p.m.

The suspect was about to enter the condominium when collared by authorities. He did not resist arrest.

Mayo is listed as No. 6 most wanted person of San Juan City for killing his cousin, Rodolfo Mayo, who was stabbed along Barangay Corazon de Jesus on Sept. 16, 2008.

The suspect reportedly stabbed Rodolfo to death after the victim beat up Mayo’s best friend during an argument.

The suspect escaped and hid in Aklan, Capiz for several years before going back to Manila two years ago. He worked as a stay-in helper in a condominium in Pasig City. (Benjamin Pulta/PNA)
