Police step up ops vs bike-riding criminals

DAVAO CITY — The Police Regional Office (PRO 11) is intensifying its operation against motorcycle-riding criminals in the region as part of the Philippine National Police (PNP) anti-terrorism clearing operation.

Chief Supt. Manuel Gaerlan, director of PRO 1I, said the police are advocating a culture of disciple on the roads thru consistent enforcement of traffic rules and regulations.

“On law enforcement, we are going after motorcycle-riding suspects and pursuing investigation of all drug-related homicide cases which are still pending in the region,” Gaerlan said.

For now, he said there is no particular group identified who are behind the motorcycle-riding suspects.

“Most of these are random suspects in murder and homicide who just use motorcycles because of the swift get away to evade patrols, checkpoints and dragnet operations,” he said.

In a separate interview, Davao City Police Office (DCPO) director Sr. Supt. Alexander Tagum said that a regional coordinating conference was held Monday at the Public Safety and Security Command Center (PSSCC) office, together with all the tactical operation officers of security forces in the region for the conduct of region-wide anti- terrorism clearing operations.

The Oplan Bulabog or Joint Anti-Criminality and terrorism operations is being conducted weekly to ensure that there are no unidentified or threat individuals residing in the city.

Oplan Bulabog started after President Rodrigo Duterte declared Martial Law in Mindanao to preempt the possible spill-over of the Marawi incident.

In an operation last October 20, DCPO together with the Regional Public Safety Battalion, Task Force Davao and other security forces conducted a joint anti-criminality operation in the different areas in the city.

The simultaneous operation resulted in the profiling of 1,891 individuals, wherein there were three most wanted persons with warrant or arrest were arrested by the authorities. (Rhoda Grace Saron/PNA)
