Predawn fire kills 4 in Iloilo City

ILOILO CITY — Four persons were killed while four more others were hurt when a fire razed a house inside Burgos Ville Subdivison, in Barangay San Isidro, La Paz, this city early Sunday morning.

City Fire Marshall Chief Insp. Christopher Regencia identified the fatalities as Maria Christina Dolente, 75; Elvira Avelino, 64; Evanegline Jerapusco, 40; and her son Richard Jr., 15.

Regencia added that their bodies will still be subjected to identification and confirmation by their relatives.

The two-story house owned by SPO2 Richard Jerapusco was surrounded by a firewall while the back portion serves as a garage.

Initial investigation revealed that the fire could have started at the ground floor.

The BFP is looking into the possibility that the cause of fire was “electrical in nature”, citing that an overload of appliance use might have triggered the fire.

Meanwhile, four members of the Avelino family sustained burns while escaping from the burning house.

Jayvee, Carla, James and Jimboy Avelino were brought to the Iloilo St. Paul’s Hospital for appropriate medical attention.

The BFP declared a fire-out at 5:31 a.m.

The damage was initially estimated at PHP250,000. (PNA)
