Pres. Duterte sacks Amb. Mauro over abuse

President Rodrigo R. Duterte has dismissed Philippine Ambassador to Brazil Marichu Mauro from the service following the report of abusing her Filipino household helper.

In his weekly address, President Duterte announced that he signed the recommendation to cancel the eligibility of the ambassador.

“I signed the document affirming the decision. The decision metes out the penalty of dismissal from the service with the accessory penalties of cancellation of eligibility, forfeiture of retirement benefits, perpetual disqualification from holding public office, and bar from taking Civil Service examination.”

In November 2020, a video of Mauro maltreating her household helper went viral and was immediately investigated by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
