President Rodrigo Duterte will be participating in the special session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in response to the COVID-19 pandemic late this week.
“The 31st Special Session of UNGA will be held virtually, with President Duterte expected to deliver the Philippine Statement on 03 December 2020, New York time,” a statement from Malacañang announced.
“Of particular concern for President Duterte are universal access to anti-COVID19 technologies and products and the need for global efforts to ensure availability of safe and effective vaccines to peoples of developing nations,” the statement added.
President Duterte has already emphasized during his participation at the seventy-fifth session of the UNGA last September that vaccines “must not be denied nor withheld” and “should be made available to all rich and poor nations alike as a matter of policy.”
The palace announcement said the special session targets the reaffirmation of the UN to maintain global order, more so with the prevailing pandemic. It is also held under Resolution 75/4 which was adopted by the General Assembly last November 5. – PTV News Online
