Pres. Spox. Roque: Gov’t taking measures to decongest jails

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque has assured that the government is acting on the decongestion of jails and detention facilities in the Philippines after families of persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) have appealed for the release of old and sick detainees.

Secretary Roque has also guaranteed that the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) have provided isolation facilities for the PDLs infected with COVID-19.

A case of a PDL may be junked if it is a minor offense to decongest the jails.

The Presidential Spokesperson has also stated that the use of e-Dalaw will be considered. – Report from Naomi Tiburcio
