President Duterte eyes investigation on stumbles in 2019 SEA Games auspices

President Rodrigo Duterte envisages an investigation on the mess that has marred the smooth hosting of the 2019 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games by the Philippines. “The President is not pleased of what he has been hearing about certain snafu, certain delays, certain allegations of athletes not being fed properly, of athletes arriving late or not on time delivered to their places of rest or residence. He is displeased. Ayaw n’ya ‘yon” (The President is not pleased of what he has been hearing about certain snafu, certain delays, certain allegations of athletes not being fed properly, of athletes arriving late or not on time delivered to their places of rest or residence. He is displeased. He does not like that), informed Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo.

Panelo opined that said predicaments could have been avoided if the organizers had exercised promptness in addressing the same.

The presidential spokesperson, when asked if said probe will include House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, the chairperson of the Philippine Southeast Asian (SEA) Games Organizing Committee, responded that everyone involved in administering the international sport event may be encompassed. “E siguro kasama na lahat ‘yon kasi nga when you investigate a particular body, di kasama na lahat ‘yong mga kung sinong involved do’n” (Maybe everyone will be included there because when you investigate a particular body, all people involved are entailed), Panelo hypothesized.

The Malacañan once again apologized to the distressed individuals in the course of the Philippine auspices of the SEA Games. It also urged the organizers that this incident be a lesson to them. “It’s not a good example of how a country should host so we should learn from that mistake,” Panelo averred.
