Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental ─ President Rodrigo Duterte attended the launching of Laguindingan Airport as Cebu Pacific’s 7th Domestic Hub on Friday, October 20.

During his speech, President Duterte expressed his appreciation to Mr. Lance Gokongwei, who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Cebu Pacific, for seeing the promise of what Mindanao can become in the coming years.

“I have to credit Cebu Pacific for its rise – ang galing – question of management ‘yan eh – and of course, talent and enterprise, which the family Gokongwei has,” he said.

President Duterte said that the Philippines had seized to have the feeder with the kind of vision of the said airline for the country.

“I would be most happy. Whatever promotes the comfort of the Filipino, ‘yan lang naman ang gusto ko sa administrasyon ko,” the President underscored.

President Duterte, meanwhile, expressed hopes that the airline officials and employees would continue to be the government’s partners in effecting meaningful and lasting changes in society.

“May this launch become a testament that the Filipino entrepreneurial spirit is resilient and bold,” he said.

President Duterte also said that he will continue to support Filipino entrepreneurs to make the Philippines a progressive country filled with opportunities for the next generation.

“And Cebu Pacific has – (been) leading the pack of entrepreneurial boldness. So salamat sa Cebu Pacific at ang bilis ninyong lumago. Ang bilis ninyong lumaki, the network, and you’re flying all over the world,” he said, adding that the said airline also deserves a salute just like the soldiers.

“It’s not an easy task to do that. Your tour requires brainwork and everything. And to make it safe, which is really a heavier responsibility,” President Duterte said.

Laguindingan Airport, which currently has 7,200 square meter passenger terminal and a 2,100 meter runway, serves as a gateway to Northern Mindanao that caters to the airline passengers coming to and from Cagayan de Oro City and its neighboring areas, including Bukidnon, Iligan City, and Marawi City.
