PRO-3 to deploy over 5K cops for Holy Week, summer vacation

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — More than 5,000 police personnel will be deployed in various key areas in Central Luzon to implement public safety measures for the entire summer season.

Chief Supt. Amador V. Corpus, Police Regional Office 3 (PRO-3) director, said he already directed all provincial and city directors to ensure the safe travel of motorists and commuters this coming Lenten season and summer vacation.

“As a matter of fact, we will be deploying 5,560 personnel regionwide starting on Friday, March 23,” Corpus said.

He noted the police visibility will be intensified through increased foot and mobile patrols.

The PRO-3 chief also said police assistance desks will be set up in bus and jeepney terminals.

Corpus further said he instructed police chiefs in the region to coordinate closely with local government units, non-government organizations, and other government entities and volunteer groups, in establishing police assistance desks and centers and in deploying road safety marshals for a collaborative and unified delivery of public safety services and assistance.

“Road safety marshals will be deployed in convergence points, particularly in bus terminals, airport, seaports and recreational areas, including highways, main thoroughfares and crime prone areas to ensure maximum police presence,” he said.

Likewise, Corpus said barangay peacekeeping action teams/barangay tanods will be deputized to assist in the implementation of “Ligtas Summer Vacation (SumVac).”

He said together with the police, they will patrol residential areas, business establishments and economic key points to thwart criminality.

The Ligtas SumVac will remain in effect through Holy week until the Flores de Mayo season and the opening of the next school year in June. (PNA)
