CEBU CITY — The late Senior Police Officer 1 (SPO1) Adonis Dumpit would neither be accorded police honors nor receive benefits, said Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO-7) director Chief Supt. Debold Sinas on Friday.
“He (Dumpit) cannot receive any benefits and police honors. We already informed the Bohol Police Provincial headquarters about this. This is because he was a bad example for a policeman. Besides, his death was not in the line of duty,” Sinas said.
However, he added that the family may receive the unpaid leave credits of Dumpit during his duty.
“The family will just receive his unpaid or unused leaves. If his marriage was annulled, the wife could not benefit from it but only his children below 21 years old or his parents, if they are still alive, can claim it,” Sinas said.
The PRO-7 director said the .45-caliber firearm recovered from Dumpit was not the latter’s service pistol, while the motorcycle was registered to someone from Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City.
Sinas also clarified that they are not prohibiting the classmates of the late police to visit the wake.
“No, we are not stopping them. We are just taking photos of those who visit Dumpit’s wake,” Sinas said.
The PRO-7 director also said he does not oppose Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña’s plan to give Dumpit a decent burial.
“It’s up to him. No problem. In our case, we will give our respect to the dead but there are some protocols and procedures to be followed,” Sinas said.
Dumpit, Osmeña’s former bodyguard, was killed in a shootout with members of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and Regional Intelligence Division (RID-7) during an anti-drug operation in Bohol on Wednesday.
His estranged wife Josephine brought his remains to Cebu aboard a Lite Ferry vessel from Tagbilaran on Thursday. His body now lies in state at the Cosmopolitan Funeral Homes. (Luel Galarpe with Bebie Jane Casipong/PNA)
