Probe on slain Dumaguete broadcaster a priority: Palace

MANILA – Malacañang on Thursday assured that the investigation on the killing of Dumaguete City media broadcaster Edmund Sestoso will be given priority by law enforcers, including the Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS).

“We condemn all these killings and I would like to assure the government is making steps to fulfill its responsibility. We will investigate and punish the perpetrators,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a Palace press briefing.

Roque said the PTFoMS, headed by Undersecretary Joel Egco, a former media practitioner, will look into the brutal killing of Sestoso.

“The PTFoMS is there and the government will give it priority,” he said.

Egco, for his part, said the task force will leave no stone unturned in going after the killers of Sestoso.

“We are saddened. We are enraged and we will get them. You have to trust us, we want to finish this problem,” Egco said in his Facebook post.

He said Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary and PTFoMS co-chairman Martin Andanar has directed the authorities in Dumaguete to relentlessly pursue the perpetrators.

He said Special Investigation Task Group Sestoso has been created to conduct a probe into what the PTFoMS described as another media killing case “until further investigation proves otherwise.”

“Rest assured that in the case of Mr. Sestoso, our marching order is to leave no stone unturned,” Egco said.

Sestoso, anchorman of POWER 91 DYGB FM in Dumaguete City, died on Tuesday a day after he was shot by unidentified gunmen on board a motorcycle near his boarding house.

Police has yet to determine the motive behind the killing of Sestoso. (PNA)
