Production of ASF vax eyed by 2023, 2024

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is eyeing the production of locally developed African swine fever (ASF) vaccine by 2023 or 2024, its official said Wednesday, June 8.

In the Laging Handa briefing, DOST Undersecretary Rowena Guevara said the DOST provided P15.95-million financial assistance to BioAssets Corporation for the research and development of the ASF vaccine.

So, mga end of 2023 or mga 2024 pa natin makikita ‘yung vaccine na ‘yan,” she added.

ASF test kit

Guevara also noted that the production of the ASF test kit “could possibly happen at the end of the year or early next year.”

Mobile laboratory

Leading the Brisk Response through In-location Diagnostics and Genome Sequencing project (BRIDGES), BioAssets also put up the first high-containment mobile laboratory unit in the country in Mindanao.

– ag
