Lawyer Rodolfo Robles

MANILA — President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed lawyer Rodolfo Robles as the permanent representative of the Philippines to the United Nations in New York.

Robles’ appointment paper was signed on July 1, 2019, according to a list of presidential appointees from Malacañang.

He will replace Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr., who was UN envoy since September 2016.

Prior to his appointment as UN envoy, Robles was also one of the 22 members of the Consultative Committee (ConCom), a panel of experts tasked to draft a proposed federal constitution, which is expected to distribute powers and resources among the regions.

Also on the list of appointments is Eliseo Rio as Undersecretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).

Rio served as acting DICT Secretary prior to the appointment of former Senator Gregorio “Gringo” Honasan II as the agency’s ad-interim Secretary.

Other appointees are Benedicto Malcontento as National Prosecution Service Prosecutor General and Ryan Vincent Uy as Presidential Communications Operations Office Assistant Secretary.
