PRRD asserts manufacturers of defective firecrackers add more hazard to public

President Rodrigo R. Duterte asserted that firecracker manufacturers that create defective products cause more hazards.

In his public address Monday night, the President expressed disappointment towards defective firecrackers with no label.

“Wala akong nakita na may hinabol ang gobyerno at nakulong dahil sa (I have not seen [anyone] chased and jailed by the government due to) inferior or wrongly-manufactured firecrackers. Every product that is sold to the public, government must have an intervention.”

“Why would I allow a product that is a hazard to the health and life and probably [lead to] losing your life or limb?” he added.

President Duterte admitted that his priority is always the safety of all and advised individuals associated with the fireworks industry to start looking for a new livelihood.

The Chief Executive initially stated that he will ban firecrackers in 2021 due to the danger it brings to many Filipinos every New Year.

“The last time I announced that I was going to ban firecrackers, along the way, many many years now, maraming mga batang Pilipino nawalan ng kamay, namatay, nabulag (plenty of Filipino children have lost their hands, lives, eyes) because of firecrackers And yet the previous government continued to allow the practice of allowing the public to use firecrackers to make the noise in New Year knowing fully well that there will be casualties.”  – Report from Mela Lesmoras
