PRRD: Education tops gov’t priority

President Rodrigo Duterte emphasized on Thursday the value of education under his term during the simultaneous inauguration of school buildings in Bulacan and Valenzuela.

“I am happy to go back and see the fulfilment of that promise to the people of Valenzuela, Bulacan… Making quality education to all Filipinos is one of my administration’s top priorities in the development agenda,” Pres. Duterte said in his speech.

He elaborated that at least “one-fourth” of the goal to build “conducive, inclusive, and resilient learning environment” was met considering the expenses and the time for construction.

Based on the data of the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), the Department of Education (DepEd) received the highest budget allocation for 2021 with ₱751.7 billion or 16.7 percent of the national budget.

“Our investment in education and infrastructure affirms our continuing commitment to promote the right of the people to quality and accessible education at all levels,” Pres. Duterte pointed out.

Government agencies were likewise directed to “ensure the least inconvenience to the public during construction while ensuring strict adherence to the highest standards of honesty and integrity and prevent corruption.”

He assured that the government is now fast-tracking the rollout of the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination program to prepare for the gradual opening of schools and face-to-face classes.

Learners were also encouraged to persevere to reach their potential for the sustainable future of the nation. – PTV News Online
