PRRD expected to announce January quarantine today

President Rodrigo Duterte is expected to announce new quarantine classifications of the various regions in the country this Monday as the December community restrictions nears its conclusion.

Malacaῆang said the announcement may be aired following his meeting with members of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID).

Earlier on Saturday evening, President Duterte called for a meeting with cabinet members and health experts to discuss the new strain of SARS-CoV-2 from the United Kingdom.

Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Aῆo said during the meeting that the country’s “situation is manageable if we are just talking of the local COVID situation, but we have to watch out the international borders,” Aῆo added.

As of December 28 morning, there are 469,886 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country after 883 more cases were added on December 27. A total of 438,678 have already recovered while 9,109 have succumbed to the disease. – PTV News
