PRRD leads commissioning ceremony of new frigate

“I convey my deepest gratitude and appreciation to the Philippine Navy for always delivering the highest standard of service to our country and our people. I am hopeful that you shall likewise be doubling the passion and commitment you have already manifested in ensuring the peace and progress truly deserved by our country,” President Duterte lauded.

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana was personally present in the event and took pride in the outstanding characteristics of the frigate. He shared it will be used purely for defensive purposes.

“This ship represents an advancement and welcome addition to the Philippine fleet being the first missile capable frigate of the Philippine Navy. The BRP Jose Rizal is capable of employing anti-surface warfare, anti-submarine, and electronic warfare,” Lorenzana described.

Before the warship was commissioned, it carried PPEs and medical equipment “donated by HHI leadership” when it arrived from South Korea.

“So that way nakatulong na siya. But our other navy vessels, nakita niyo itong BRP Davao Del Sur, nakatulong when she transported more than 400 LSIs to the Visayas Area (So that way, it has helped. But our other navy vessels such as the BRP Davao del Sur, it was able to help when it transported more than 400 LSIs to the Visayas Area),” Philippine Navy Chief Vice Adm. Giovanni Carlo Bacordo said.
