PRRD orders probe on DPWH, entire gov’t corruption allegations

President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered in his public address aired on Tuesday morning the investigation of alleged corruption “in the entire government”, particularly the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

“‘Yung task force na nabuo ko, this time we will look into every department. But upon my request to focus sa corruption sa DPWH (With the task force I created, this time we will look into every department. But upon my request, it will focus on corruption within DPWH),” President Duterte stated.

President Duterte clarified that he has nothing against DPWH Secretary Mark Villar since he is hardworking with accomplishments, but that “alone should not suffice.”

He has pointed out in his previous briefing the alleged corruption within the DPWH involving other lower ranking officials. He also cited his memorandum to the justice department to investigate allegations of corruption “in the entire government” which will be effective until June 30, 2022 or his expected last day in office.

The directive has authorized the DOJ to “to decide which allegation to investigate, taking into consideration the gravity thereof and their impact on delivery of government service.”

“It may create as many panels it deems necessary adequate, and may invite or direct other bodies and agencies of the government to assist or be part of such panel,” he read.

Resignation not an escape

The Chief Executive surmised that corruption continues to prevail in the government, but reminded that resignation will not absolve officials involved in fraud.

“You are not allowed to resign if there is a pending case against you… You are not allowed to resign to escape liability,” he warned.

“Hanggang ngayong hindi humihina, lumalakas pa lalo. Para na tuloy naging inutil ang mga opisyal ng bayan na wala talagang magawa with the onslaught of corruption (Corruption has not weakened; it has even gotten more rampant. It seems that the officials have become inutile who cannot do anything with the onslaught of corruption),” Duterte stated. – PTV News Online
