PSA: Agri output up 2.1% in first quarter

The agriculture and fisheries production value in the country grew by 2.1% at P428.69 billion in the first quarter of 2023, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said Wednesday, May 10.

A 1.7% growth was recorded for crops which share P247.77 billion or 57.8% of the total production for the said period, while palay production rose by 5.2% and corn increased by 3.2%. 

Livestock production also improved 4.1% annually with a P61.66 billion or a 14.4% share in the overall agriculture and fisheries production. Tha PSA noted that hog production rose 5.1%.

Poultry production also rose by 3.2% with a value of P64.95 billion with all poultry commodities except ducks improved.

Meanwhile, fisheries production had a slight boost of 0.3% at P54.32 billion, with squid up 18.2%, tilapia at 10.8%, and blue crab at 10.5%.

“At current prices, the value of production in agriculture and fisheries amounted to PhP 569.94 billion, indicating an annual growth of 14.1 percent,” the PSA noted. – gb
