LIPA CITY, Batangas – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Calabarzon regional office based here is slated to embark on the 2018 Occupational Wages Survey (OWS) and the 2017/2018 Integrated Survey on Labor and Employment (ISLE) for the region this September.
PSA Calabarzon Regional Statistical Services Office Director Charito C. Armonia said the data would be culled from various establishments in the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon (Calabarazon).
Armonia said the establishments were urged to support the surveys.
“Ang 2018 Occupational Wages Survey ay naglalayong ma-monitor ang kita o suweldo ng mga nasa 22 okupasyong nabibilang sa 21 gawain na labas sa industriya ng agrikultura (the 2018 OWS aims to monitor the income or wages of the 22 occupations under the 21 industry labor sectors outside the agriculture sector),” Armonia said
The PSA central office in Manila has approved the clearance for the conduct of the 2018 Occupational Wages Survey (OWS) on June 22 this year, which will be undertaken in the region starting next month.
The survey aims to generate statistics for wage and salary administration and wage determination in collective bargaining negotiations and results are expected to be released in Sept. 2019.
The conduct of the survey was reviewed and cleared under the Statistical Survey Review and Clearance System (SSRCS), a mechanism being implemented by the PSA by virtue of Rule 28 of Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of Republic Act (RA) No. 10625 or the PSA Act of 2013.
The law aims to ensure sound design for data collection; minimize the burden placed upon respondents; effect economy in statistical data collection; eliminate unnecessary duplication of statistical data collection efforts; and achieve better coordination of government statistical activities.
On the other hand, Armonia said the conduct of the 2017/2018 Integrated Survey on Labor and Employment (ISLE) was cleared by the PSA on July 9 this year.
She also said that the 2017/2018 ISLE aims to generate an integrated set of data on unionism and collective bargaining, employment of specific groups of workers, occupational shortages and surpluses, training of workers, productivity improvement program, and gain sharing practices, employees compensation program, occupational safety and health practices, and occupational injuries and diseases.
The results of the survey will be used as inputs to study the industry trends and practices, as well as bases for the formulation of labor policies.
The Calabarzon survey will form part of the total 17,000 sample establishments employing at least 20 workers, which are covered in the survey across industries nationwide.
The consolidated results of the 2017/2018 ISLE is expected to be released by Oct. 2019.
Armonia said the questionnaires will be distributed to the sample establishments beginning Sept. 10 and will be collected by Sept. 30.
“Sana siguruhing kompleto at pawang totoo ang impormasyong kanilang ipagkakaloob (I hope the information given by these establishments would be complete and real,” she added, citing there are corresponding sanctions under Section 27 of the RA 10625 for business establishments that do not provide accurate information in the questionnaire.
