The People’s Television Network (PTV), aside from its mandate to deliver truthful news on various government projects and effectively communicate the President’s message to the people, remains committed to safeguarding the rights of its personnel to equal opportunities to contribute to and benefit from societal progress regardless of gender roles.
This is in line with the Republic Act (RA) No. 9071 or the Magna Carta of Women, which prescribes Gender and Development (GAD) among government agencies and local government units.
To ensure that its employees are equipped with the proper knowledge and skills to effectively formulate and implement GAD-oriented policies within the Network, the PTV, through its Gender and Development Focal Point System (GFPS), held a training on the Use of Gender Analysis Tools in Quezon City from July 8–10.
Participated by respective members of the GFPS and led by General Manager Atty. Robert O. Doller, the three-day training was aimed at arming the PTV-GFPS with the appropriate tools to better analyze the Network’s GAD-related programs and design projects that will further help promote more gender-inclusive projects.
Central to the training was the discussion on gender analysis and mainstreaming, led by Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) National Gender and Development Resource Person Alvin Cloyd Dakis.
“Ang gender analysis po ay isang regular na ginagawa ng bawat government agency para maintindihan kung bakit may mga gaps pagdating sa mga different services especially directed to different population like women, men, LGBT, etc.,” Dakis explained.
“Itong gender mainstreaming naman ay pagsisigurado na lahat nang na-identify na concerns ay naa-address at nai-integrate natin sa programs, services, and products ng bawat ahensiya.”
The PTV-GFPS were also trained on the use of the gender analysis tools such as the Harmonized Gender and Development Guidelines (HGDG) and the enhanced Gender Mainstreaming Evaluation Framework (GMEF) tools, which would help the Network formulate more gender-sensitive services and programs.
“Ito po ay makakatulong upang magsagawa ng mga policies, projects, programs, activities para po sa mga empleyado ng PTV—babae, lalaki, member ng LGBT community—na mag-participate sa mga activities ng network, kasama rin po ang mga provincial stations,” PTV-GFPS Chairperson Ma. Theresa Leah Aguzar said.
Also raised during the training-seminar was the establishment of a Committee on Decorum and Investigation tasked to address sexual harassment reports within the Network as well as the inappropriate behaviors of employees. (with report from Joyce Salamatin / PTV News)
