PVL season opening to be postponed anew

The debut of the Premiere Volleyball League (PVL) as a professional league has been postponed due to the ongoing enhanced community quarantine in the National Capital Region (NCR) Plus bubble.

The opening date of the new season was originally scheduled in April, then it was moved to May.

But since the PVL and the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) are compelled to abide by the protocols of the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID), there is a possibility of another postponement.

In a statement given to PTV Sports, GAB Chairman Abraham ‘Baham’ Mitra said they respect the decision of the IATF-EID, and are willing to wait for the go-signal to open the professional leagues.

“As we all know, everything is on a standstill. Yes, we gave them a go-signal but we have to follow the Inter-Agency Task Force guidelines that professional sports would come to a hold. So in summary, the PVL is ready to go. However, we’re waiting for the go-signal from the IATF na (to) mag-resume ang (the) professional sports,” Mitra explained.

Despite this circumstance, Mitra shared another option that the GAB is eyeing to to be able to push through with the PVL season.

“As I know, they are planning a bubble tournament. Probably (this) will be held in Region III. Maybe Subic, maybe Clark, or maybe in Inspire Laguna. Ang pagkakaalam ko, may mga gustong mag-practice outside Metro Manila. Basta wala ka sa NCR Plus bubble, pu’wede naman ‘yan [What I know is that there are people who want to practice outside Metro Manila. As long as this will not be in the NCR Plus bubble, that could be allowed], Mitra said.

Discussions are currently ongoing between the PVL, GAB, and the 12 teams as to when the PVL season will actually open. Report by Mae Ann Fajardo/JBB-jlo
