QC senior high school to hike student population

MANILA — The newly-converted Pedro Tuason Senior High School in Quezon City is planning to increase its student population.

In an interview by the Philippine News Agency on Friday, Assistant Principal Rida Atayon said “one of the challenges of our new senior high school is to increase our student population.”

Atayon added that they are also planning to increase the number of teachers for the new senior high school.

She noted that more classrooms are still being built in the school .

Marami kaming challenges (We have many challenges). One is how to increase student population and number of teachers,” Atayon said.

“The student population is also one of the challenges kasi maraming classroom ginagawa pa (because many classrooms are still being constructed). Kakaunti pa 87 pa lang ang students (There are only 87 students),” she added.

Atayon cited that they also lack teachers for the senior high school.

Hindi pa sapat ang number ng teachers. Iba ang specialization ng six teachers. Walang teacher sa Pilipino. Two Pilipino teachers pero hindi major sa subject na yon (The number of teachers is not yet enough. The specialization of the six teachers are different. There’s no teacher in Pilipino. Two Pilipino teachers, but not major in that subject),” Atayon said.

She noted that the senior high school is just a new one, which used to be P. Tuason Elementary School.

The school official also said the 300 graduates of the P. Tuason High School might not have yet known the “voucher system” wherein the government provides them with PHP11,000 voucher per year and directly given to the private school where they would like to enroll for their senior high school. (Perfecto Raymundo, Jr./PNA)
