Quake hits Surigao Sur, South Leyte

MANILA — A magnitude 4.6 earthquake hit Surigao del Sur Friday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The quake of tectonic origin struck 18 km northeast of the municipality of Cantilan at around 7:02 a.m. It had a depth of 7 km.

Phivolcs is not expecting any damage or aftershocks from the earthquake.

Meanwhile, a magnitude 3.9 quake jolted Southern Leyte Friday morning.

Phivolcs said the quake of tectonic origin struck 4 km southeast of Hinunangan at 10:56 a.m. It had a depth of 2 km.

Intensity 4 was felt in Hinunangan and San Juan, while Intensity 3 was recorded in San Francisco.

Phivolcs said it is not expecting any damage or aftershocks from the magnitude 3.9 quake.
