Quezon City bats for office space for PTAs

MANILA — The Quezon City government on Tuesday passed a resolution urging Mayor Herbert Bautista to allocate an office space within the city hall compound for the Parents Teachers Associations (PTAs) in Quezon City.

Authored by Councilor Marivic Co-Pilar, Quezon City Resolution 7474-2018 states that “the creation of division office within the compound of Quezon City Hall shall foster a streamlined communication and cooperation between the city government, the parents and teachers of Quezon City for the best interest of our students and their future.”

The Quezon City Hall high-rise building is currently being retrofitted, with many offices moving to the newly-built civic center buildings to decongest the more than 50-year-old structure.

The city resolution cited Section 4(1), Article XIV of the 1987 Constitution, which provides that “The State recognizes the complementary roles of public and private institutions in the educational system and shall exercise reasonable supervision and regulation of all educational institutions.”

Department Order No. 54, series of 2009, or the “Revised Guidelines Governing PTA at the School Level”, recognizes the active participation of parents, in cooperation with the teachers, in the guardianship and development of quality education of their children and students.

It added that Quezon City, being the most dynamic Philippine city, values, protects and invests heavily in the future of the youth by providing quality education for all. (Perfecto Raymundo, Jr./PNA)
