Quezon City hails basketball, volleyball team champs

MANILA — The Quezon City government on Friday hailed the city’s athletes for becoming champions in the basketball and volleyball sports fest in the National Capital Region, which was held to promote a drug-free and youth-oriented community.

The city government gave recognition to the QC Stars Basketball Juniors and Women’s Volleyball team for clinching the basketball and volleyball championship title in the Metro Manila Sports Fest.

The Junior Stars were lauded as the North Division and Metro Basketball Tournament Under-16 division champion after defeating 15 other teams.

Team captain Miguel Tan was named as the season’s “Most Valuable Player” after leading the Stars throughout the game, averaging 19.1 points, 21.9 rebounds and 3.4 blocks per game.

Tan was also selected as part of the league’s mythical five.

The Stars women’s volleyball team captured the 24-Under division title after dominating 16 other teams from various cities of Metro Manila.

Sarah Verutiao of Quezon City was selected as the “Most Valuable Player” and “Best Setter” of the league.

Rizalie Amaro and Glydel Ann Liu were named as the “1st Best Middle Hitter” and “2nd Best Outside Hitter”, respectively.

The Metro Manila Sports Fest was organized by the Metro Manila Development Authority in 2017. (PNA)
