Rain showers expected in many parts of PH due to ‘habagat’

The southwest monsoon or “habagat” may still affect most parts of the country particularly western sections of southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Sunday, Aug. 14.

In its 4:00 a.m. bulletin, the weather bureau said Mimaropa and Bicol regions and the provinces of Quezon and Batangas in Luzon; Visayas; and Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao and Caraga regions in Mindanao will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.

It warned residents of possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms also due to southwest monsoon and localized thunderstorms.

The entire archipelago will have light to moderate winds and slight to moderate coastal waters.

Ezra Bulquerin of PAGASA said a low pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has a slim chance to develop into a tropical cyclone.

Though located 990 kilometers east of northern eastern Mindanao, he said the LPA was seen not to affect any parts of the country.

The temperature will range from 25.2°C to 33.2°C. – gb
