Rains to prevail as ‘Urduja’ moves slowly over Samar

MANILA — The northern part of Samar island can expect more heavy rains as tropical storm “Urduja” continued to move slowly over the area on Sunday, heading west at 13 kilometers per hour (km/h).

In its latest bulletin, state weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said “Urduja” was last eyed in the vicinity of Calbayog City, Samar.

“Urduja” continues to have maximum winds of 65 km/h near the center, and gustiness of up to 110 km/h.

Tropical cyclone warning signal (TCWS) number 2 has been hoisted over Sorsogon, Masbate including Ticao Island, Romblon, and Cuyo Islands, Northern Samar, northern part of Samar, Biliran, Aklan, Capiz, northern part of Antique, and northern part of Iloilo.

The southern part of Occidental Mindoro, southern part of Oriental Mindoro Catanduanes, Camarines Sur, Albay, Burias Island, and northern portion of Palawan including Calamian Group of Islands Rest of Iloilo, rest of Antique, Guimaras, northern part of Negros Occidental, northern part of Cebu, Leyte, eastern Samar, and the rest of Samar island are under Signal number 1.

Sea travel remains risky over the seaboards of areas under tropical cyclone warning signals.

PAGASA said scattered to at times widespread rains will continue over western Visayas, Bicol, southern Quezon, Batangas, Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Cuyo Islands, and Calamian Group of Islands.

Rains over the rest of Visayas are forecast to gradually weaken. (PNA)
