Red Cross deploys emergency tents at NKTI

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) deployed emergency tents at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) on Saturday (April 24) amid rising Covid-19 cases.

PRC Chairperson and CEO Richard Gordon said this is to augment the bed capacity of the health facility amid a spike of Covid-19 cases which has pushed some individuals to sleep outside pending admission.

The emergency tent has a 20-bed capacity with basic ward facilities to treat other patients.

“Hindi natin hahayaang dumami pa ang Pilipinong nasasawi nang hindi man lang naa-admit sa ospital at nabibigyan ng atensyong medical,” Gordon said.

On April 21, the senator called for more healthcare workers to be deployed to its emergency Covid-19 field hospitals to monitor mild to moderate or recovering COVID-19 positive patients.

The PRC established at least 18 air-conditioned tents as surge facilities of the Lung Center of the Philippines last week. – Report from Mark Fetalco/AG-jlo
