Retired BJMP official nabbed for extortion

CEBU CITY — A retired female official of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) was arrested by police operatives Tuesday afternoon for allegedly extorting money from recruits.

Arrested in an entrapment operation carried out by personnel of the police’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group 7 (Central Visayas) inside a mall here at about 5:45 p.m. Tuesday was recently-retired jail superintendent Priscillana Lee Gilboy, 49, previously assigned to conduct neuro-psychiatric exams on BJMP applicants.

Apprehended along with Gilboy was her sister-in-law and alleged go-between identified as Fatima Gilboy, 45.

CIDG-7 conducted the operation after receiving a complaint that Priscillana has been allegedly asking PHP20,000 from every BJMP applicant for him/her to pass the neuro-psychiatric screening.

The two suspects are detained at the CIDG-7 and will be facing robbery-extortion charges before the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office. (Luel Galarpe/PNA)
